This is a good read by Trent Walton. It’s a challenge to reconsider some of the projects you’re working on. The work you take on can define you.

A beautifully designed site on (as the name suggests) the state of wikipedia.

I’ve been accepted in the Dream Year 2011 program. We had a retreat last weekend where we crammed a good chunk of the entire year program into 1 weekend! I think the one of the best things that came out of the entire weekend was the networking that took place. There were so many people there, each with their own ideas of greatness. Shawn Landis has been so great as to compile a list of all the Twitter handles of the people that were there.

I found this via Jeremy Cowart on Twitter. It’s an excellent post. Not the usual, but definitely practical.
http://tiffanymonhollon.com/blog/2009/09/10/daily-dozen-pr-tasks/
This post looks at 12 items to do everyday to make the “pockets of unplanned time” more productive. I struggle to stay on top of everything. A lot of the things on this list are usually the first things to get bumped off my list when things are hectic.
What are your 12?

Another beautiful infographic.

I love the work that Invisible Creature produces. I’ve often wondered about their process. Do they do the texture work in Photoshop or Illustrator? Well, apparently they did an interview with Grain Edit back in 2008. Pretty cool! So many times, I think people believe that because the work is done on the computer, it goes by faster. Not true! This article proves that when they talk about all the textures and drawings that they do by hand and then scan all the pieces in.

An interesting write up on the O Magazine redesign…including a custom typeface.

Matt Tyson is definitely one of my favorite designers. The posters that he’s created are beautiful! He just released his Dexter Season 5 poster. But, even more exciting, he’s included a video and pictures of some of his process. I eat up this stuff.

I hate name tags. I don’t know what it is about them… I found this website that let’s you create name tags. But, the catch is, you put an ice breaker question on them, like “if I could induct one word into the dictionary, it would be:” I think this is so great! Talk about a conversation starter for meeting new people. There’s also a Flickr pool of one’s people have already created.

This was originally posted about a year ago, but I recently discovered it as I was trying to create a list of books I want to read in 2011. I downloaded a few Kindle samples.

This book claims to be an almanac of human emotion. Basically, they took Twitter, Facebook, and blogs to determine the social climate. It’s full of infographics and beautiful layouts.

A few weeks ago, Time Magazine labeled Mark Zuckerberg (creater of Facebook) person of the year. I finally got around to reading the whole article yesterday. I felt like most of it was a PR piece to correct the movie The Social Network.. I definitely have mixed feelings about Mark Zuckerberg, but regardless of what I think, I’m fascinated by what he’s been able to accomplish and the influence that Facebook has had on our society over the past 7 years. — Needless to say, I’ll probably end up reading Accidental Billionaires before too long.

I saw this a couple of weeks ago, but it’s still worthy of being shared. A designer that’s spent most of his life in LA, just took a job in NYC. As a good bye to the city, he desigend billboards and had them posted around the city. I love art when it’s for art’s sake.

This is a fascinating infographic. It maps out the distribution of racial and ethnic groups.
