Twitter Explained

People continue to ask me about Twitter: “What’s the point?!” In my *humble* opinion it helps to think of Twittering as micro blogging. –it gets fun when people start responding to what you’re doing and when you can have conversations with multiple people at one time.

I found this video a while back, but it does a fantastic job of explaining Twitter:

A thought I had about Twitter…

I tell people I twitter. They don’t seem to get it. Who cares when you’re going to the bathroom? Yes, Twitter asks the questions “What are you doing right now?” But if you think of it in terms of micro blogging, then that changes everything.

When blogging, some people do blog about their days and their agenda. Some people blog about their companies. Some people use blogging as a resource to ask questions, post links, market themselves, etc. Ultimately twitter is no different (minus the 140 character limit). All those groups of people can be found on Twitter.

A personal note on the “Who cares if you’re going to the bathroom?” question:
I personally don’t post this information. And I will agree, it can get annoying when you’re constantly getting a play by play. But to play devil’s advocate: When I talk to my friends on the phone, we spend a bulk of the conversation catching up. We do talk about what we did that day. I share the joys and disappointments, the big picture and the details. The only difference that Twitter provides is that you are getting that feed as it happens.—just a thought.
